A novel powder coating technique for surface functionalization of textiles

One way of tailoring the physical properties of textiles is through coating, which can create functionalities such as watertightness, resistance to chemicals and fading as well as designs and appearance. Conventional areas of applications of coated textiles are e.g. home textiles, washable covers or rain gear. But with the progress in textile research, new fields of applications with new functionalities such as Smart Textiles or Wearables are unlocked. Within these new applications, the desire for innovative solutions of integrating features and functionalities in textiles is steadily growing. Well-known coating procedures such as screen, chromojet, inkjet or flexo printing are reaching their limits in implementing the requested properties.1 The novel powder coating technique, developed by the TITV Greiz, offers promising potential for innovative textile coating.
